Scholarships & Assistantship

Most students in the Divinity School of Chung Chi College are supported financially by their own denominations. As for those students who are enrolled in the Chinese University of Hong Kong Degree Programmes, they can seek government loans. (Refer to the Student Financial Office of the HKSAR Government for further information.) MPhil and PhD students can apply for research or teaching assistant positions.

There are also prizes, awards, and grants which are donated to the School by the Church of Christ in China Hong Kong Council, Tsung Tsin Mission Kau Yan Church, the Chinese United Church in Washington, D. C., St. Thomas Church of Sheng Kung Hui, Calvary Church, alumni, and Christians who support the theological education ministry of the School.

Donations benefit students with financial difficulties and also encourage them to excel in the areas of pastoral care, ministry, service, ecumenical cooperation, community life, extracurricular activities, thesis writing, scholarship and spirituality. Special aid is given to students who take summer Field Education in North America; and a scholarship is also awarded to one female student who plans to enter pastoral ministry.

For one female and male student each.

For a full-time theology student, in year two or above, and recommended by the Divinity School of Chung Chi College.

For excellence in character and scholarship.

For academic achievement, spirituality, responsibility, and commitment to ministry.

For Mainland Chinese Christians who study postgraduate programmes in our School and will serve Christian ministry in Mainland China upon completion of studies.

For a student who shall be a minister in HK or Mainland China upon graduation, of good moral character and excellence in academic studies.

For a student who has served well the cause of ecumenicity, and church unity.

For a student who excels in Pastoral Study courses.

For a student who completed the first degree in Theology at the age of 40 or above (up to Theology Day).

For diligence in study, and active participation in community life and extracurricular activities.

For the student who has the best result for graduation thesis.

For the best final year students of Department of Cultural and Religious Studies who have achieved outstanding academic achievements over the past few years.

For the students with the best academic record in each class of Department of Cultural and Religious Studies in the previous year.

For a student who has expressed intention of entering the Christian ministry upon completion of studies. This award is based of financial need, academic performance and contribution to the community life in the Divinity School of Chung Chi College and the Chung Chi College.

For students who are godly and caring, and who have good performance in church ministry and preaching ministry.

For one or two students who have decided to serve as full-time ministers after graduation.

For a student who has not received financial support from churches, is in need and has contributed to campus life.

For an outstanding Chung Chi College student in the Divinity School of Chung Chi College who has an expressed intention to enter the Christian ministry upon completion of studies. The award is based on financial need, academic merit and contribution to the community life in the Divinity School of Chung Chi College and the College.

For a theology student in financial need, with good academic results, and GPA not below 2.7. The recipient must enter full-time parish ministry for not less than two years after graduation.

The Board of Trustees established these scholarships in 1995/96. These are full tuition scholarships for an academic year and may be renewed for another year. They are to be awarded to academically outstanding students, who demonstrate proven leadership, potential for further development, and who are not in their first year of studies.

For a student in need of financial support with GPA 2.5 or above.

For a student with outstanding performance in the study and spiritual development and committed to serve the church.

For one or two students who excels in Clinal Pastoral Education (CPE) and have decided to serve as hospital chaplaincy or church ministers.

For the student whose graduation thesis has been ranked most outstanding. (Area: Systematic Theology / Christian Education)

For the student’s travel fare to North America for summer internship.

For students who have outstanding performance in the study of Chinese Christianity and related subjects.

For students who are studying long-term or short-term programmes at our school, and scholars who participate in academic conferences organized by our school.

For a student who has outstanding academic performance and wishes to serve the disadvantaged or people with addiction.

For a student who excels in Biblical Study courses.

For a mainland student who excels in character, scholarship, is devoted to serving God and is active in the community life of the Divinity School.

For a student who will be a missionary upon graduation and one student who has outstanding performance in mission courses.

For Mainland students who have good academic results, devoted to serving God, and will serve Christian ministry in Mainland China upon completion of studies.

For three students whose graduation theses are outstanding.

For a student who has outstanding academic performance in Church History courses.

For a student who excels in worship and scared music.

For a student who has outstanding academic performance in spiritual courses or has great contribution in promoting spiritual practice.

For alumni who have further study at our School.

Support outstanding young BD and MDiv students who will be committed to serving local churches.

For a student who is actively taking part in activities which promote social justice or has submitted an academic paper on social justice.

For a student who has an excellent performance in preaching subjects. The prize also supports organization of conferences on expository preaching or purchase of reference materials related to homiletics.

For a student with good academic results and various talents (e.g. language, music), who uses the talents to serve well in church and the community.

For a student with good academic results and outstanding leadership, whose service is much appreciated in churches.

  1. For mainland students studying in MDiv or BD programme, who have outstanding academic results, actively engaged in community life at Divinity School and are committed to serve as full-time ministers in mainland churches after graduation; OR
  2. For mainland students studying in MTheol or DTheol programme, who have outstanding academic results, actively engaged in community life at Divinity School and are committed to serving in mainland seminaries after graduation to train ministers.

For the Mainland China students who must study in BD, MDiv, MMin, MTheol or DTheol programme. The applicants must submit the recommendation letter from their church or seminary, and gurantee the students shall be served in this organization of Mainland China upon graduation.
