QUEST: Studies on Religion & Culture in Asia

NOTES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

Funded by the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, QUEST: Studies on Religion & Culture in Asia is a publication from the Divinity School of Chung Chi College, the Chinese University of Hong Kong for the Institute for the Advanced Study in Asian Cultures and Theologies (IASACT). While QUEST is ready to publish the peer-reviewed articles authored by the IASACT scholars and its alumni, it is not exclusively an IASACT journal. It endeavors to contribute to the ongoing efforts aimed at promoting creative thinking and lively scholarly interchange in the interpretation of all aspects of Christianity and other religions in Asia. We welcome submissions from all scholars, whether you are emerging or established, within or without the IASACT circle. It publishes research and book review articles that may span the full spectrum of religious studies, cultural studies, theological studies, and interdisciplinary studies on the cultures and religions in Asia.

Please carefully read the guidelines below. Manuscripts not conforming to the guidelines may be returned.

Please make sure that (1) you are submitting your original work, (2) you have the rights in the work that you submit, (3) you know submission of an article is taken to imply that it has not previously been published in English, and is not being considered for publication by another journal, and (4) you can supply all necessary permissions for the reproduction of any copyright works not owned by you.

Manuscripts will only be accepted in Microsoft® Word file format.

Peer Review

All submissions are rigorously peer-reviewed (double-blind) retaining the quality hallmarks of any traditional academic journal. Review criteria include, but not limited to: (1) whether the research was conducted properly, (2) whether the discussion accurately summarizes the research, and (3) whether the conclusion follows logically from the research.

Publication Fee

QUEST’s prime aim is to promote and disseminate new research work to each and every corner of the world. So, it does NOT charge publication/ processing fees from the author(s).

Manuscript Preparation

Length-- Articles should not exceed 10,000 words, excluding reference list; book reviews must be limited to around 1000 words. 12-point type size and 1.5-inch margins at the top, bottom, right, and left of every page should be used. Manuscripts should be typed and single-spaced. Manuscripts should include an abstract of approximately 150 words, and, beneath the abstract, 3 to 5 keywords.

Style-- The Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition) should be used as the style reference for preparation of manuscripts. More style details can be referred to http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html. The author-date system (e.g. (Song 1975, 33-47)) should be used for references within the text. A reference list must be given at the end of the manuscript. Explanatory notes should be avoided whenever possible by incorporating them into the main text. Endnotes should be used. Gender-inclusive language must be employed. At the end of your article Acknowledgments should appear first, followed by your Declaration of Conflicting Interests, funding acknowledgment, any notes and then the reference list.

Cover Sheet and Author Identification-- Manuscript should come with a cover sheet that contains the article title, author’s name with highest academic qualifications, institutional affiliation with position held, address, phone and fax numbers, and email addresses. Since QUEST follows a double-blind reviewing procedure, authors must avoid self-identification in the manuscript. For the same reason, the body of the manuscript should bear only the article title on the first page.

Page layout-- A sample paper of the previous issue will be sent to authors for the reference of manuscript preparation. Please follow the sample paper for styling the header and footer.

Authors’ Publishing Agreement

Once a manuscript is accepted as publishable, its author(s) as the rights holder will be requested to sign a publishing agreement that will include, but not limited to, a statement which allows others to re-use the work without permission as long as the work is properly referenced.

Responsibility

Contributors bear sole responsibility for the accurate documentation of all reference materials used to support their contributions.
