Rev. Dr. Richard Deutsch, former Head of Theology Division, passed away on 4 April, 2020 in England, at the age of 92. Rev. Deutsch was commissioned and sent to Hong Kong by Basel Mission in 1957. Later he joined the Tsung Tsin Lok Yuk Theological Seminary in Hong Kong and was appointed as Vice-President of the seminary. In 1966, Lok Yuk Seminary joined Chung Chi Theological Seminary. Since then, Dr. Deutsch served as professor of Old Testament of the seminary (restructured as Theology Division of the Department of Religious Knowledge and Philosophy, CUHK, in 1968). He was later appointed Head of Theology Division from August 1977 to July 1980. Throughout his 16 years of service in our school, he committed himself to theological education and won great respect from colleagues and students. Among his many contributions, he made his mark as an advocate in the areas of “Enhancement of Academic Standards”, “Indigenization of Theology” and "making the Christian theology relevant in the local context". As of now, our beloved teacher is home with God. Our deepest condolences to his family.
